Lilac clouds and rainbows girl’s bedroom
Moving from a cot bed to a big girl’s bed was a huge deal for Emmie who is always looking up to her big sister to see what she’s doing and although we were sad to see our youngest’s nursery updated, her excited little face when her bedroom was finished made up for the end of this era.
We updated Emmie’s bedroom at the same time as creating Isla’s Modern Boho Peachy Bedroom to save the argument over who would get their new room first – clever or stupid, you decide! (at least the mess was in one go I suppose)
This lilac clouds and rainbows girl’s bedroom has DIY galore including upcycled furniture (including from her original room!), DIY 3D floral letter, DIY rainbow wall hanging and the most incredible dreamy clouds wallpaper courtesy of Rebel Walls.

Walls and Furniture
We kept the walls in Soothing White by Homebase because it’s such a gorgeous colour (we also have it in our hallway and bathroom!) and looks beautiful against the dreamy ‘Coral Clouds’ wallpaper by Rebel Walls which we added to the main wall.
The cot bed was replaced by a divan bed with two drawers because you can never have enough storage can you?! Not long ago I would have 100% gone for a bed frame then put storage boxes underneath but I’ve started to realise that you end up either seeing the boxes or having to use really small ones, plus dust seems to gather there, so we went for practical over ‘look’.
The curved rattan-bamboo headboard was a bit accidental in this room to be honest as I ended up with a pair for Isla’s boho bedroom through a bargain eBay purchase and Emmie assumed the other was for hers! We painted it in Annie Sloan’s ‘Antoinette’ (along with her old white house shaped bookcase from Argos and a wooden house wall shelf from Hobbycraft) and I love how no primer or sanding is needed for these paints. We simply rubbed them down a little to remove the old chipped varnish and washed them, simples!
The bedside table was a bargain from Homesense and the stunning ‘Toulouse’ white painted wooden chest of drawers was from Top Furniture. Because we’d accounted for storage elsewhere in the room we went for the simple stool bedside table and I love the simplicity of it against the fairly busy wall and bed area.
Accessories and DIYs
Our small pink faux fur rug was a bargain from Aldi (don’t you just love those middle aisles, you never know what treasures you’re going to find!) and a few weeks down the line I’ve also added a large silver and turquoise rug which we already had – I can’t decide whether to leave it there or not so let me know what you think in the comments! The one thing I know is that it’ll protect the carpet from 4 year old Play Doh and the like!
The lilac striped bedding is by Helena Springfield and it’s SOOOO soft! We paired it with plain lilac pillowcases and kept the pink blanket from her old bedroom which reminded me a bit of clouds when the sky is red. She also got a unicorn bedding set from George at Asda for her birthday which she loves and it matches perfectly with her unicorn bedside light from The Range don’t you think?
The cloud cushion is from H&M Home and I love how it mimics the pattern on the canvas above it, which Isla made in Art Club using dotty tissue paper with glue and some paint.
The DIY rainbow rope wall hanging takes pride of place by the bed (the full tutorial is here) and don’t you just love the blue ‘dream’ wire word from here with adorable raindrops felt garland from Velveteen Babies?!
On the chest of drawers is a beautiful zebra print from Sirocco Design (I love the little party hat it’s wearing!), our DIY spray painted giraffe (a plastic toy which was pink) and our DIY 3D floral letter. The ‘Live Your Best Life’ print was harder to frame than expected because I couldn’t find it as a standard size and it was really expensive to have a made to measure one, so I hit the high street and found our chunky white frame in a charity shop for £9 – bargain! It was a bit damaged on the corner but nothing a bit of poly filler couldn’t fix and I’ve covered it with our DIY feather garland.[shopr_shopthepost collection=”rainbow-love” title=”Shop Rainbow Love” show_product_title=”yes” show_product_price=”yes”]

Emmie loves her room and it’s really calming don’t you think? I’m convinced it’s an aid to get her to sleep at night, ha ha!
