Boho Dreamcatcher Birthday Party

It seems only yesterday that we were throwing Isla’s Ice Cream and Slime 7th Birthday Party and her Under the Sea Mermaid Party before that – where has that time gone, how is our baby girl eight and how is she already that age for sleepover birthday parties?!
When likeminded businesses come together to collaborate and support each other it can only mean one thing…a dream team with beautiful results! Most of the collaborators for Isla’s Boho Dreamcatcher Birthday Party are South West England based (predominantly Portishead) and what a talented bunch they are…
We decided to host the ‘sleeping’ part of the party using the prettiest teepees you’ve ever seen so they’d all sleep soundly all night (yeah right, ha ha!). In all seriousness, they are the prettiest teepees you’ve ever seen in beautiful pastel tones complete with lace garlands, dreamcatchers and individual trays for lanterns, sparkly eye masks and the all-important treats!
Lisa from Sleepee Teepee Events brought all the mattresses and bedding as well as the teepees and themed decor so this has to be one of the easiest parties to host from a mummy perspective! I simply cleared the space and added some beautiful oversized paper party streamers to the walls which really drew attention to all the beautiful dreamcatchers, most of which were from another South West business Roma Dream Art.
When I met Kellie of Balloontastic Portishead to discuss concepts for this party I never could have dreamed that she’d create something so spectacular! Don’t you just love the colour and size combinations she’s used and the way the balloons give the illusion of cascading from the first teepee all the way to the last one? Her balloon stand is topped with a rose gold metallic personalised ‘8’ and connects perfectly to the balloon garland on the teepee so it looks like one piece – genius.
The great thing with these balloons is that I could move the garlands around the house (like for breakfast the next day-see below!) so we really got our use out of them. The rather large 8 is firmly placed in Isla’s bedroom now and I wouldn’t be surprised if it stays there until her 9th birthday!
Bohemian Garden Party
If you’ve seen Isla’s Boho Peachy Bedroom you’ll know she’s a hippie chick at heart and every boho dreamcatcher birthday party needs a wicker peacock chair right?! I was inspired by the beautiful Millie Mackintosh’s (secret girl crush right there) festival themed 30th birthday retreat, styled by the incredible Elari Events.
I found ours on eBay after patiently waiting for a local collection listing to avoid courier costs. Artificial flowers were fixed in place at the back using their wire stems, along with some artificial tropical leaves (used in our Boho Fiesta) which we sprayed rose gold and a few stems of pampas grass.
The plastic garden flamingoes from our Mint and Pink Playhouse were put in vases and had a makeover with Annie Sloan’s Scandinavian Pink Chalk Paint. Bright pink no more!
The backdrop was made up of three different pieces of fabric all with a tab at the top so ribbon could be threaded through and used to tie to the drainpipe and a branch. To stop it blowing apart I pegged them together at the back and weighed it down at the bottom with the chair and bar cart.
As you’ve probably guessed by now, pastels are a big feature in any Oh So Kel creation so when I saw the gold rimmed pastel paper plates, mint striped serviettes, flamingo cups and peach chevron paper treat bags by Postbox Party I did a little swoon.
The gorgeous wooden picnic tables, cake stands, cushions and burlap runners were provided by Lisa of Sleepee Teepee Events and looked fabulous on our collection of aztec rugs (which I stole from each room of our house) as well as offering a really practical solution for the girls who were up and down playing as well as sitting down to eat.
My hubby was in charge of food and he did good! To make the edible teepees he dipped ice cream cones in white chocolate and cut a bigger hole for the chocolate poles made from Salted Caramel Matchmakers (also dipped in white chocolate) before placing them on greaseproof paper in the fridge to set.
I’d seen candyfloss topped cocktails on Pinterest that looked really cute so I decided to do similar by fixing candy floss around the straws in the flamingo cups but I didn’t anticipate what would happen to it in the heat so we ended up with a big sticky mess on our rose gold upcycled bar cart. FAIL! Lesson learnt! I may try this again with boozy cocktails at Christmas so watch this space…

Woweeeeeeeee was my reaction to the cake created by Clare’s Cake Corner. With the dreamcatcher, mix of mint and peach with gold, cute little teepee on the top and the modern aztec design I really think it pulls the whole party scheme together, don’t you? The flavour was Vanilla Sponge with Mango and Passionfruit Buttercream and a White Chocolate Ganache. Delish!
Instead of a cake stand I turned a white basket upside down (used in the Boho Pampas Grass Wedding Shoot ) then placed a mirror from Emmie’s bedroom on top.
Isla’s sparkly gold cake topper was by Say it Sweet and we chose to keep it simple rather than include her age so it can be reused year on year. I love how the gold picks up the gold detail on the cake. Since the party she’s put it with flowers in a vase in her bedroom and it looks gorgeous!
To be honest, we didn’t need to set up too many activities because the girls created their own fun in the garden and in their teepees. They played games, watched films from their snuggly teepees (with treats!) and decorated plain pillowcases using fabric paint.
Party Favours and Outfits
The stunning mint and cream floral headbands by Postbox Party are so gorgeously girly and are fabulous against the neon coral personalised vests printed by Pig & Pony don’t you think?! Please don’t judge that I was a little bit jealous to not have one, ha ha.
In the girls’ party bags were blue and pink mini dreamcatcher making kits by Roma Dream Art (which my girls couldn’t wait to get started on!), temporary tattoos from Postbox Party, personalised canvas pencil cases by Pig & Pony, the pillowcases they’d decorated and of course, cake!
I’ve photographed every birthday we’ve hosted until now and I was so relieved that a true professional took the role this year! Katie Forshaw is an incredibly talented photographer based in Portishead and the images speak for themselves; aren’t they incredible?! I love how she’s captured the girls having fun together and all of the party details of course! If only I could have a Katie Forshaw Fairy Photo-Mother for every party…
Every slumber party needs a breakfast of champions with an explosion of balloons right?! You can’t leave the party vibe at the sleeping part in my book, so I teamed up with American Cereal Club to create a rainbowtastic brekkie using Marshmallows Mateys, an oat cereal with marshmallows in the cutest shapes like dolphins and flowers which was an absolute winner with the girls.
To match the cereal we dipped the rims of plastic wine glasses in white chocolate, filled them with strawberry milkshake and topped them with marshmallows on striped paper straws.
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t give my children this amount of sugar every morning but what a treat for a birthday or other occasions like Christmas Eve and Easter!
It’s safe to say that Isla’s Boho Dreamcatcher Birthday Party was a dreamy affair; I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing this party as much as we have creating and sharing it. Do tag @ohsokel on social media or comment below if you’re inspired after seeing this post. I’d love to hear from you!
