With the leaves falling and an autumn air arriving, it’s the prime time to achieve maximum cosiness in your home. Think seasonal decor, smells and lights that will make you want to stay indoors 24/7 in your favourite chunky knit jumper.
1. Cushions and Blankets
Few items are comfier than big, soft cushions and plush blankets that you can sink into, particularly in your living room. Warm or earth-toned covers work well at this time of year, and I personally love a mix of fabrics such as velvet and linen. Bear in mind your sofa colour so it all works well together.
2. Scented Candles
Crisp air is already a staple of the fall season. However, you can enhance your indoor air by burning scented candles. Think warm fragrances like pumpkin spice or pomegranate and woodsy blends. Pro tip — candles can burn 25% longer if you trim the wick every couple of hours, allowing your home to smell good for longer.
3. Ambient Lighting
Try to switch your lightbulbs to warm lighting throughout your home or ensure you have a multi-layered lighting system to create an ambient glow. We put LED lights strips under our shelves which has made a huge difference in our open plan living area. Invest in fairy lights as well, since they can add a sense of whimsy to your home. We’ve personally used them around the fencing and walls in the garden.
4. Stained Wood Furniture
Stained wood furniture is an underrated but lovely fall element to have in your home. It can embody our connection with nature while also promoting sustainability. Depending on the stain, it can complement other warm shades used in the home. Match your coffee tables and benches to your wooden cabinetry for a cohesive look; I personally like to add a few elements in a darker wood to bring some depth and personality to the space.
5. Pumpkins and Fruits
To lean into the woodsy feel of your home, consider adding some fruits or foraged branches. Pumpkins are obviously heavily associated with fall and my favourites are the whites, however, you can curate bowls of other fall fruits like figs, cranberries, conkers and apples. I love the deep plum and brown tones as well as the obvious orange.
6. Fall Flowers
Fall flowers can offer extra visual appeal and soften your aesthetic. You can tie twine or burlap around mason jars to create the perfect DIY vessel. I used faux autumn tone stems mixed with dried stems which I foraged from the garden.
7. Coffee and Tea Station
Whether you’re in favour of coffee or tea (or hot chocolate!), a fall drink station is a lovely touch which is guaranteed to be well used. Grab all your essentials and place them on a nice tray or display on a shelf above the kettle.
8. Reading Nook
Create a lovely little reading nook where you can just lie down and read. You can usually place this in the corner of the room or right next to the window. Have a beanbag and extra blanket ready for ultimate comfort. Faux fur would work really well here, plus don’t forget fairy lights!
Create a Cosy Autumn Vibe
The fall season is my favourite because it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, and I love to create the autumn vibe at home. I hope these tips will help you to create your own seasonal decor.
