GET YOUR DIY ON WITH CRAIG & ROSE PAINTS

When I heard that Craig & Rose has launched an exciting ARTISAN collection of decorative paints and spray paint finishes including metallic, marble effects and glitter glazes, I just had to try them out for myself. And let me tell you, I’m mightily impressed.

If you’re a DIY obsessive who is constantly upcycling things and making original pieces or if you want to create a homemade one-off gift, you’re literally going to go crazy over the endless possibilities; their paints can be used on smaller objects like ornaments to larger pieces like furniture and feature walls. They also have ‘how to’ guides and ideas on their website to help get you started with application and inspiration so no matter how experienced or inexperienced you are at this kind of thing, you can definitely give this a go and be pleased with the results.

What I love about this collection is that not only are the paint effects so diverse and creative, but the materials you can apply them to are plentiful as well.

All of the items shown are from Ikea (we all know how cost-effective their pieces are) and I think they all look fabulous with their new makeovers. How gorgeous is this ombre effect plant pot? I’ve used it to add a touch of personality to my home office.

I’ve simply taped the area I don’t want to be touched, then used Hog Bristle High Performance Enamel Spray Paint on the bottom section. One tip for the spray paints is to make sure you turn the can upside down and shake thoroughly before use. This paint can be used on wood, metal and most plastic and it dries super fast which is a winner for me because I always get impatient when it comes to adding my final touches.

This lantern received a peachy uplift with Rose Gold Metallic Effect Spray Paint, which again dried incredibly quickly, followed by White Marble Effect Spray Paint. Blush colours are so on trend right now and I just totally adore it in my living room, particularly when lit at night time as it gives such a warm glow. If you wanted the marble effect to be more subtle (which I would do next time as I got a bit carried away!), simply stand further away from the item when you spray; it comes out a bit like silly string and sticks to the item like cobweb if you’re interested in knowing how this works!

Some wooden picture frames have been given a touch of glam here using pearl effect paints, which were applied in different ways using a paint brush to create varied effects, including stippling and moving the brush in opposite diagonal directions to create a herringbone pattern.

I’ve created this spotty pot by adding stickers to it, using Black High Performance Gloss Spray Paint on top, then carefully peeling the stickers away to reveal the original material underneath. It’s very Kate Spade and looks so chic with some white blooms inside.

Getting into the festive spirit, I’ve used Rose Gold Effect Metallic Paint over the NOEL stickers using a medium brush, which required a couple of coats. I’ve added a candle and I think this would look so pretty lit up in a window or on a mantlepiece. You could fill the pot with yummy goodies and wrap in cellophane for beautiful homemade gifts too. The paint really does go a long way and I’ve got oodles of the pot left for future projects. (yippeeeee!)

Is your brain going into overdrive and are you scanning your home for items to upcycle?! Yup, thought so. Because I’ve gone a bit crazy for these paints I simply can’t stop there and am planning some more projects including an upcycled item perfect for entertaining and ways to use Craig & Rose paints in a tablescape. Watch this space!
