DIY VINTAGE ICE SKATES CHRISTMAS DECOR

I don’t know why but I’ve always loved the idea of using vintage ice skates somewhere in my Christmas decor. They look pretty cool adorned in rustic burlap bows with winter foliage coming out of the top as you often see on Pinterest, but I decided to create a winter focal point in my daughter’s bedroom so went for DIY pom poms and DIY copper snowflakes instead.

I bought the skates on Ebay and cleaned them up the best I could (although I quite like a bit of the worn vintage look) and ssssshhhhhh, don’t tell my hubby but the missing shoelace came from a pair of his tatty white trainers. He still hasn’t noticed but we’ll see how long that lasts shall we? They’re so old that if it goes a while longer they may find themselves in shoe heaven but let’s not get too excited just yet.

After making the pom poms with my daughter (read more here) I then cut snowflakes using a paper punch out of sticky back thin copper tape which is advertised as a slug repellent.

They came out pretty well and all I had to do was peel the paper off the back and stick them to the skates. Simples!

It was really easy to tie the pom poms to the metal hooks at the top of the skates and tie the laces together at the top to create a loop which I used to hang over the hook in my daughter’s bedroom.

She loves them and I love the touch of winter decor alongside her winter duvet too. They’d also look pretty cool fixed to a front door or to a vintage sleigh on your porch.
