A Modern Boho Peachy Girl’s Bedroom for Isla
Are you ready for some serious room makeover action?! Rather cleverly – or stupidly (you decide!) – we embarked on multi bedroom makeover projects for both our girls AT THE SAME TIME! It may have taken longer than usual but it also meant one lot of mess in one go plus less arguments over who got their rooms decorated first, ha ha!
I enlisted the incredibly talented Mireya Gonzalez Portraits for the photography of this modern boho peachy girl’s bedroom because quite frankly, I’d run out of steam. Don’t you find that when you’ve looked at something for so blooming long it’s difficult to ‘see’ it, if you know what I mean?! It was wonderful to have someone with a fresh pair of eyes capture the room in the best possible way.
Anyhoo, Isla has always been a bit of a boho chick with her long curly locks and love of oversized floral headbands so it was no surprise that when I gave her control of my Pinterest account she started saving peach colours and painted rattan to her bedroom board which quickly became a Modern Boho Girl’s Bedroom theme. She may also have been influenced by my recent Boho Wedding Photoshoot with Pampas Grass or Boho Fiesta in the garden I don’t know but I’m rather chuffed that she’s developing a design eye (although when she has an idea about something, it’s difficult for me to argue otherwise which I sometimes find difficult to let go of, I’m not going to lie).
This bedroom is full of peachy tones, rattan furniture, aztec patterns, modern artwork, duck egg and mint accents and some cheeky DIYs for the whole family!

I actually loved Isla’s bedroom before which we quickly updated when we moved in by adding stick on dotty decals to the white walls but after living here for five years and with a carpet that’s seen better days she definitely deserved a ‘proper’ new bedroom fit for a nearly 8 year old.
The Wall Colour
This modern boho girl’s bedroom was given its peachy makeover courtesy of Earthborn Paints who kindly gifted our chosen colour of Ballet Shoe (after lots of helpful opinions on my Instagram Stories because we couldn’t decide!). It’s a beautiful muted peach without the overly orange tones which gives it a truly calming feel perfect for our boho vibe bedroom. Earthborn Paints are eco-friendly and have no added VOCs so it’s a winner on all fronts, particularly for a child’s bedroom and the creamy qualities make it just gorgeous to use.
It took one coat in the morning and another in the afternoon so Isla got to have the big reveal in one day, which for a rather excited 7 year old was a godsend for mummy! It is more expensive than other brands but covered so well and I really believe the colour quality to be unrivalled. Everyone in the family had a little go at painting!
As the paint can be used on furniture without the need for a primer I also painted the existing wall shelves too so they blended in perfectly!
The Furniture
Isla is getting older and reaching the ‘homework’ stage so we favoured this mint coloured desk in place of her chest of drawers. To make up for the loss of storage we replaced her bed with a divan which has two drawers on the same side then put a double duvet on it to cover the majority of the base. It fits in well with the boho look too I think and we’ve draped blankets over the side of it too for that extra relaxed vibe.
The bargain pink crush velvet chair came as a pair from here and was an absolute steal! I love it so much I’m ordering another so we have a full set for the banquette dining area in our kitchen. I adore the rainbow cushion from here and originally ordered it for Emmie’s clouds and rainbows bedroom but it works so well here I think and adds a girlie child-like touch.
The rattan bedside table from Isla’s existing room was an eBay bargain and was given a new lick of paint using Annie Sloan’s Provence chalk paint which was kindly gifted. I started to worry that Isla’s bedroom was seeming a bit too grown up, hence the two mini disco balls in the table and the large one at the side! They were gifted from Talking Tables and used in my how to make festive baubles post at Christmas.
On the eBay bargain and painted rattan front, I spent hours trying to find a reasonably priced curved painted headboard as it was a consistent theme in our Pinterest board but they were all SO expensive! Rattan is a must in any Boho scheme in my book and painted rattan gives it a fun edge perfect for a child’s bedroom don’t you think?
After a bit of a wait and some patience (there were a fair amount on there actually but the distance meant a hefty courier fee) I finally found not just one but a pair only half an hour away – and they threw in a matching mirror too! What’s that saying about buses coming at once?! We painted Isla’s in Annie Sloan’s Duck Egg Blue and the other in Antoinette for Emmie’s new clouds and rainbows bedroom at the same time and I love how no primer or sanding is needed for these paints. We simply rubbed them down a little to remove the old chipped varnish and washed them, simples! We laid them out on sheets in the garden on a beautiful sunny day and all got stuck in.
We’ve kept the existing white Ikea Pax wardrobe which fits perfectly in the alcove and offers SO much storage and versatility as Isla grows older (and taller).
The Accessories
To break up the carpet I chose the most beautiful boho rug from Homesense. I even spent my birthday vouchers on it because I couldn’t part with it in the shop and as we all know, if you see anything in this beautiful store you have to get it there and then to save heartbreak further down the line. I love how the design incorporates the peachy tones but adds vibrancy with the bright pink and a modern feel with the grey.
For the boho vibe we wanted to create a relaxed vibe where things don’t look too staged and where we mixed textures and materials, but we also wanted a modern edge which was predominantly introduced through the statement artwork on the walls. The large ‘No-one is you and that is your power’ motto pink and red poster was from here and the two little ones next to it were Valentine Day Free Printables from the Kailo Chic website in a set of pink and gold frames from here. Doesn’t the little Maileg Mouse on the vintage suitcase look sweet perched up there too?!
We added casual shapes and heights on the bed-wall by draping a yellow and mint pom pom garland from here around the gold wall letter I, up and over a Miami picture from a previous room and attaching it to a gorgeous ‘hello’ yellow wire word sign from here. The white and copper heart wall vase above the desk is from here and helps to balance things out without making the desk area look too cluttered.
The apricot pink coloured bedside/desk lamp was cheap as chips from here and I absolutely adore the colour. So much so that I bought a second for Emmie’s new bedroom too! It’s neither blush pink nor peach but somewhere in between.
For ages I looked for quirky boho duvet covers but instead decided to buy a plain cream double duvet cover and layer it up with throws and cushions – my favourite things ever! To my hubby’s dismay (or he’s secretly glad because it hides his DIY tools!) I have a whole cupboard full of them as I love to switch them around the house. The ombre bedcover is actually a large soft scarf from Primark and the orange geo tassel knitted throw was less than a tenner from here. The fringed rusty and patterned round cushions are from Homesense and the neon heart one is from London based designer Bianca Hall.
Quick DIYs
It wouldn’t be an Oh So Kel post without a cheeky DIY project here and there now would it?!
After being inspired by a Kailo Chic post and seeing some ceramic versions in Next, Isla and I made our very own typography vases which fit perfectly on her shelf don’t you think? The full DIY can be found here.
We also upcycled some jam jars using spray paint and animal print ribbon to create a set of beautifully boho desk tidies. The full DIY deets plus other fun spray paint ideas are here.

It’s safe to say Isla is pretty darn happy with her new bedroom and she’s rather chuffed with her DIY efforts too! It makes them so much prouder when they’ve contributed themselves doesn’t it?
I hope you’ve enjoyed our modern peachy boho girl’s bedroom update! What do you think of the peachy coloured walls and would you have painted rattan in your home?
