10 WAYS TO EMBRACE BOHO VIBES AT HOME
I’m so excited to offer tips and homeware collections that create inspiration for beautiful living and since my fave ‘boho’ style is making waves, I’m sharing ideas to get you inspired…
The ‘bohemian’ look works really well when mixed with other styles so it’s actually a really cost-effective look to achieve and instantly creates an eclectic cosy lived-in vibe. This has to be a good thing right?!
Boho decor is absolutely one of my favourite interior styles and for the past few years I’ve incorporated it into my own guest room, daughter’s bedroom, styled photoshoots, garden and children’s parties too.
Here are my 10 Ways to Embrace Boho Vibes at Home so you can be inspired to do the same:
1. MINIMAL AND MAXIMAL
The fabulous thing about this trend is that you can go BIG by mixing lots of big personality decor together in the form of patterns, colours and textures OR you can go down the subtle route with ‘bohemian nods’ through pieces like tufted cushion covers and wicker or rattan accents as seen in my collection:
2. MAXIMISE TEXTURES
The main principal in boho design is texture texture texture! Whether you wish to incorporate colour or stick with neutrals, provided you’re incorporating textures into your scheme you’re onto a winner. Extra points for layering!
Consider pieces such as:
- jute rugs and cushions
- tufted and tassel throws and cushions
- pale wooden furniture
- wicker baskets
- rattan accent chairs
- woven planters
- macrame detailing
- lots of plants in beautiful pots
Here are a few shots from our own home and collection to give you some examples:
3. LOW-LEVEL SEATING
Pouffes and floor cushions evoke that relaxed welcoming vibe you’re really trying to achieve with the boho look and can serve a really practical purpose too.
A couple in front of a coffee table like our Mia Tufted Pouffes can really invite guests to kick back and chill out in your space. Our girls like to sit on them to watch tv or have tea at the coffee table for special treat!
4. THINK WOOD
Although ‘anything goes’ so to speak, paler wood lends itself to this trend as it creates an airy feel that works really well with the textures and layers you’d be incorporating.
However, a little touch of black or darker elements will help to ground your space.
5. LAYER UP
My favourite thing to do and so much fun!
If you mix together an eclectic collection of accessories and soft furnishings you can easily achieve the laid-back boho style whilst also displaying your favourite bits and bobs.
A personal favourite trick is to layer cushions on throws and a small textured rug on top of a large jute one.
6. MIX PATTERNS
In the same way that incorporating textures creates a winning boho vibe, the same can be said for patterns. This could be in the form of colour through vintage Persian or Turkish rugs or in the form of neutral tufted patterns on neutral cushion covers.
7. GO BARGAIN HUNTING
Second-hand pieces not only cost less but they also add true personality to a space and add to that eclectic relaxed vibe you’re looking to achieve.
Key things to look out for are rattan and wicker pieces such as side tables, lamps and trays, vintage brass such as plant holders, and textured soft furnishings with tufted and tassel detailing.
Imperfections only add to the charm of the boho look so don’t worry it they’re a little rough around the edges!
8. TAKE THE VIBES OUTSIDE
Let’s not forget the garden! Think Moroccan vibe outdoor rugs, layered throws and cushions on the garden furniture and perhaps some fun tropical vibes:
9. GET CRAFTY
There’s nothing so satisfying as making something yourself. Not only is it cheaper but it also means you’ll have a unique one-off piece in your home which is pretty darn special right?!
You could make a macrame wall hanging, crochet blanket or upcycle a piece of furniture.
10. PAMPAS GRASS
Pampas grass is everywhere and I’m not sorry. I used it for a wedding photoshoot a few years back before it became ‘trendy’ and got some rather saucy messages when I asked if anyone had some spare in their garden on my local Facebook group!
Thankfully we’re beyond that now and I just adore how pampas (and other dried grasses such as bunny tails) brings natural textures to a space. LONG LIVE PAMPAS!
You can shop my range of pampas in the Bloom Bar here.
